Cooper Turns One!Submitted by Brian on Sun, 03/28/2010 - 18:05This past thursday Cooper turned one year old. It is hard to fathom that he wasn't here slightly more then a year ago. Or just how much he has changed! My parents came out for the week and I took the day off. We took him to the aquarium for the first time. He dug the exhibits, but he seemed to like checking out what all the other kids were doing just as much. We got to see the feeding of a giant octopus up-close, lots of tropical fish, sea birds, otters and seals.
Habanero Mango BBQ SauceThis is very spicy, but still consumable if you are the sort that orders 5 stars at thai restaurants. To make it even hotter, don't seed or de-vein the peppers.
Brian's Basic BBQ SauceThis recipe is a decedent of the "Struttin' Sauce" Recipe from Cheryl and Bill Jamison's "Smoke and Spice" cookbook. I've found I like my BBQ to be less sweet and closer in flavors to the spices used with other types of pork shoulder preparations, so I started with a rub that got me closer to that. This is a more classic BBQ Sauce that uses that rub as a base. Some of the changes, no added salt (rub has enough) and reduce the amount of sugar. Both recipes evolve each time I use them.
