Turkey BurgersBack when I was working in New York, a bunch of us used to venture down to the Galaxy Dinner across from Irving Plaza. They had the best Turkey Burgers. Some how unlike every other turkey burger in the world they were not dry. They were also distinctively asian tasting though it was hard to pinpoint the ingredients. I tried a few times to replicate the flavors, but failed until I came a cross a recipe for pot stickers in a Williams Sonoma stir fry cookbook. I subbed out the pork and shrimp for turkey and the recipe below was born.

From the mouths' of babensSubmitted by Brian on Sun, 03/11/2012 - 10:17The other day Cooper asked me, "Where was I before I was born?" I am still scratching my head on that one after 37 years. He's not three yet, so I think we are in for it, as far as these questions go. The Toonces is going on 20, and while we all hope she's got many more years of sleeping through the day and yowling through the night, it has definitely occurred to me that we will have some explaining to do when she does finally pass on to that great catnip strewn feather bed in the sky. Without a turn key religious answer to point to these are difficult questions. Actually they tend to be pretty difficult with the turnkey religious answers. I remember being told pretty early on by a teacher at Sunday school that animals don't have souls. Say what!? You mean our family dog didn't go to heaven? I asked her. The teacher knew she had stepped in it, but stuck to the facts. No, your dog didn't. That little factoid never found fertile ground in my brain, and was one of the first times I really saw some problematic inconsistencies in the creed. I've been thinking he just needs a box to check. "Oh, that's what happens." I have a friend near by that raises chickens (yes in the city, it is all the rage). They are apparently notoriously perishable. The family has taken to a stock answer of "they went to the rainbows." Which lands satisfactory both vague and reassuring. Like all things like this it is comforting to know, we all work our way through it. And where the question is real, asking, thinking and pondering are the right answers. On the lighter side, I was putting Cooper to bed last night. As we sat in the chair in the dark, he asked: "What is NPR News?" (we turn it on Saturday mornings.) "It's a radio program. They talk about sports and the government and stuff." "What's the government?" ...thinking pause... "Well when a lot of people get together they pick certain people to be in charge and make decisions. That's the government." "Is Mama the government?" ...long thinking pause... "No bud. Mama's not the government. How about a song?" ----------------------------------------
